True Soldier !
“Mom, what is soldier?” Asked a 5-year-old boy innocently.
“A soldier is a protector of the nation; they fight with the
bad guys to protect good people like us.” replied his mother in simple words.
“Just like Spiderman and Captain America?” gleamed the boy
with excitement imagining his favorite super heroes.
“Yes, like all the superheroes.”
“I want to be a soldier too.” Said the boy with pride.
“You are already my little soldier, love. So strong just
like a super hero.” Said his mother with a loving smile on her face. She picked
him up and hugged him and he laughed his heart out.
Five years later in a school essay the little boy won the
first prize. The topic was “When I Grow Up”. His mother proudly showcased his
trophy and the little boy kept dreaming of how he will become a soldier.
Five more years passed away and the boy was giving his board
exams. After this he had to choose a field for further studies. His goal was
clear that he wanted to become a soldier but by this time his mother had some
other dreams. She had never taken his dream of becoming a soldier seriously.
She told him that in no case she would allow him to get into the army. She
cannot afford to lose her only son.
“You have everything, we are from a well off family, there
is so much you can do, why do u even want to become a soldier and risk your
life?” she argued.
He tried and tried and tried for the next 2 years to
convince his mother but nothing changed.
He was struggling in his own dilemma when the phone rang.
“I found this number saved as home in this person’s mobile. There
has been an accident and the person died on spot.”
His world shattered by the news of his father’s death. There
was a huge responsibility that came on his shoulders with this one incident. He
kept his dreams on the side and started running his father’s business at the
age of 17.
20 years passed by. He was on a business trip to the city
that doesn’t sleep. But he did not know that his life was going to change here.
Stuck in the midst of the terrorist attack with many unknown families the superhero
in him rose again -The Spider-man, the Captain America, the soldier. He had to
save them from the bad people. He had to protect them.
“He came out of nowhere and helped us escape the hostage situation.
He was injured and we begged him to come out with us. We begged him to escape
with us but all he said was that there are many people inside and they need
help too. He saved me and my family. I don’t know who the man was, all I know
was that he was a soldier without a uniform. He was a true soldier, a true
superhero.” A man gave his statement to the media.

A nice story. We wish someone would protect us from bad situation. But we do not want our sons / daughters to be opting for such a profession voluntarily. Yes many do join armed forces, but many others are stopped. It is not how much we have at home, it is how much we care for something deeper.
ReplyDeleteYes ! We want protectors but we aren't brave enough to create those protectors . Salute to those parents and wives and children who proudly send their loved ones in the army to protect us.
