Ek Ladki Ko Dekha To Aisa Laga - Log Kya Kahenge ?

Truly the most unexpected love story of the year and that too just before Valentine’s Day. In the world of Raj and Simran there have been quite a few Simrans who never loved a Raj and quite a few Rajs who never loved a Simran.

With such dignity and such power, with such sensitivity and such firmness, the story of this movie is explained with such a beauty. All the actors have truly lived their characters onscreen. The movie is fun, the movie is drama, the movie is emotion the movie is everything that you get in a Bollywood movie except a typical love story. Ek Ladki Ko Dekha To Aisa Laga is breaking all stereotypes with a story of one such Simran – Sweety.

This girl has always been trying to fit in the society and has never been able to because she did not fall in the definition of so called ‘NORMAL’. She has stayed alone all her life wrapped up in her diary and has accepted her fate that she is going to spent the rest of her life alone too. Until one day when she falls in love.

But true love ke raste me koi na koi siyappa to hota hi hota hai , So here comes the siyyappa(problem).

Our so called progressive society is not so progressive after all. We have definitely scraped the law criminalizing the same sex relationships but we as a society have still not accepted it. We still look down upon these people , we make fun of them , we don’t respect them. We try to make them behave the way we want them to behave . We force them to marry the opposite sex , we force them to live their lives closed behind the doors. They are forced to hide their identity and their desires. They are forced to sacrifice their dreams and their life.

Even well educated people are considering this as a disease , they believe it is a disease that can be cured. Love is the purest feeling of all, How can one say that it’s a disease. How can love ever be wrong?

“Pyar to pyar hai , ye kisi se bhi ho sakta hai”

But in this society where there still exists honor killing in name of caste and classes , how can we expect people to accept same sex relations?
Here the caste, the class, the family, the pride, the so called ‘IZZAT’ is more important than anything and everything. We don’t care about love, we don’t care about life, we don’t care about happiness. All that matters is - ‘log kya kahenge?’

You don’t want to get married? Arre log kya kahenge? (what will people say?)
You want to marry out of your caste? Arre log kya kahenge?
You want to marry out of your religion? Arre log kya kahenge?
You want to marry a guy who doesn't earn enough? Arre log kya kahenge?
You want to marry a girl more educated than you? Arre log kya kahenge?
You want to get divorced because you are not happy in your marriage? Arre log kya kahenge?
You don’t want to have children? Arre log kya kahenge?
You want to have a live in relationship? Arre log kya kahenge?
You want to re-marry so early? Arre log kya kahenge?
You want to be a single mom? Arre log kya kahenge?
You want to take this as a career? Arre log kya kahenge?
You want to marry in the same sex? Arre log kya kahenge?
Log kya kahenge? Log kya kahenge ? Log kya kahenge?

For all these people, once and for all- The real disease is - “Arre Log Kya Kahenge?"

For once just stop using the filters in your brain, open your heart and let love flow through it.

Let Love Be.

  2. Difficult to change people's mindset! Since we find this everywhere at our homes, workplace, playground and wherever we go we come across them !! I just know why is it difficult for everyone to let people live on their own terms!

    1. I agree it is difficult and at the same time I hope things will change. Each one of us need to do their share . The new generation is open minded and eventually the older generations would start accepting too or may be start keeping quiet about it.
