9 Ways To Increase Oxygen In Your Body
At this point in time, all we can think about is to somehow save ourselves from getting infected and that if we do get infected at least our vitals stay normal and we do not need oxygen support or hospitals. The Second Wave of COVID-19 is dangerous, to a certain extent, more than the first wave. Most of us have been facing problems with our oxygen levels in this wave. Some say this happened because of the masks that we wear, some say our lungs are damaged because of the pollution and some say oxygen levels in the air have decreased due to the cutting of trees. One of these or all of these might be the reason for the conditions we are facing or might be the virus has mutated to become so dangerous that it is causing so much more damage than earlier. The causes are debatable but what is clear is that we need to work on making our bodies stronger.
1. Change Your Diet: Have food that can help you increase your haemoglobin and add food rich in antioxidants( like berries , plum , prunes etc.) into your diet. To increase haemoglobin add foods like beetroot, peomegranate, brocolli, green leafy vegetables etc. How does increasing haemoglobin helps increase the oxygen level in the blood? Well, the oxygen molecules are carried in the blood attached to the haemoglobin. Thus increasing haemoglobin can increase oxygen levels in the blood.
2.Get Active: Add some form of workout to your routine. Physical exertion is extremely important for the better health of your lungs and increases the oxygen levels in your blood. It improves your circulation system and thus oxygen can be better supplied to all the organs in your body including your brain.
3. Change Your Breathing: Most of us are used to taking short breaths which activated only the upper portion of the lungs. Evolution has proved that anything which is not used enough will ultimately become useless. So when we are used to taking short breaths the area of lungs that are not activated slowly starts becoming dysfunctional. It cannot be then suddenly activated in SOS. Hence we all need to work on taking deep breaths and activate our entire lungs.
4. Cleanse the Air: Keeping home plants that give oxygen and purifies the air ( like snake plant) is a very good option. Well my true suggestion is to keep tulsi and peepal but for most of us having a peepal tree is just not possible. Tulsi though all of us can. Some people have suggested keeping air purifiers too but I cannot personally recommend them. You can though check a few on amazon.
5. Hydrate: Water is H20 where O stands for oxygen. More than 60% of our body is water and 83 % of the lungs consist of water. Having more fluids and water and keeping your body hydrated at all times can become a huge asset in this fight for lack of oxygen.
6. Stop Smoking and Drinking: I cannot emphasize this more. just stop smoking the stuff and stop drinking alcohol for your own sake. Fullstop.
7. Blow Balloons: Balloon blowing exercise can help strengthen your lungs and increase their ability to expand and take in the air. When you steadily blow up several balloons, it effectively exercises all the muscles of the lungs, building your lung capacity and stamina.
8. Add Pranayam to your daily routine: The benefits of pranayam are innumerable. Pranayam is about balancing the 'Pran Vayu' or oxygen in our body. It increases the capacity of the lungs and regulates the flow of oxygen in our body.
9 Mudra: Practice Adi Mudra for 45 minutes a day. It increases the capacity of the lungs, increases oxygen capacity in the flow of blood and also calms the nervous system.
