My Boundaries : My Space | Divya Toshniwal |
The right to privacy is protected as an intrinsic part of the right to life and personal liberty under Article 21 and as a part of the freedoms guaranteed by Part III of the Constitution but will this change in the constitution bring real changes in our lives?
I have been living in a society where people are more interested in the lives of others than they are in their own lives . What is the other person doing , how much they are earning, when are they getting married ,when will they have kids, where are they going on vacation, what are they planning to do with their properties, what they should be wearing , how they should be behaving, and the list goes on.In fact the whole funda of Facebook is dependent on this very psychology of people.
This cannot be considered as violation to right to privacy because these people are just asking you certain thing out of concern . You are a part of society , they are you elders , you need to respect them . They care for you and that is why they are asking you certain things to make sure you are on the right track. These people have been crossing your boundaries since forever and you don't say a word against them because you don't want to disrespect them . They keep asking you stuff that is personal and you still reply because you do not want to disrespect them. This is what I have been doing since forever.
But inside me is always a voice , why am I giving them the liberty to ask me questions that I don't want to answer? Why am I allowing them to invade my private space?? But I still did not have the courage to say that I will not answer your question . I kept on allowing people in my life and they kept on thinking that they have a right over me and on my life.
That day in an activity in dance and movement therapy I realized it clearly how important my private space for me is . I shouted it out that I cannot allow anyone to get in my private space.Though the activity was on a physical level it impacted me emotionally and I got to know the space that my emotions needed . Here I learnt the importance of saying no , the importance privacy and the importance of throwing people out of your personal space. It may seem a bit rude initially but this is important for self growth.
Learn to make your boundaries , let people know their rights in your life.
